We offer Solutions..........................
.......... for kids who are struggling with a crisis of character
In 1995, the Boy Scouts of America released a study by Louis Harris & Associates, The Values of Men and Boys in America. Its results indicated what the BSA has been saying for over 90 years - that Scouting makes a difference in the lives of young people.
For instance, years after their experience in Scouting, 84% of men agree that "The values I learned in Scouting continue to be important to me."
Three of four men (74%) likewise agreed that "There have been real-life situations where having been a Scout helped me to be a better leader."
We now also know, as a result of the Harris study, that our kids grow stronger in their sense of personal character as a result of the Scouting experience. For instance, 81% of Boy Scouts indicate that Scouting has encouraged them to feel pride in their country, 74% say Scouting has helped them learn the difference between right and wrong and 60% indicate that Scouting has strengthened their relationship with God.
Instilling skills for everyday life and beyond
In addition to traditional Scouting units, innovative programs focus special attention on youth whose needs differ from traditional Scouts.
The Pathfinder Initiative is a Scouting program dedicated to inner-city or low-income youth, to give an extra boost of self-esteem to kids whose economic circumstances are less than ideal.
Learning for Life is a classroom curriculum to help school-age boys and girls learn life skills and understand the career choices they must soon make in their young lives. It is adapted to meet the needs of kids with disabilities, who make up about 10% of its participants.
The Exploring Programs also emphasize career awareness, but these co-ed programs move young people out of the classroom and into business, high-adventure and outdoor settings in which they will someday work and play. Here they learn the values of interdependence necessary in the world they will someday lead.
Your support now will help us keep Scouting's solutions strong.
